Councilman Marcus Madison, of Elyria’s 5th ward, has launched marcusmadison.com, an interactive website that empowers residents to discuss community issues in an open forum and help propose solutions.
“Open government starts with clear communication” said Councilman Madison, explaining what lead him to create the website. “I want residents to be engaged, because local government is a process. It starts with a city council that is willing to work with local non-profits, church groups, businesses, and most importantly, residents, to chart the direction our community is working towards.”
The site is divided into separate sections featuring information on topics such as pending legislation, upcoming community and political events, and getting involved in the community. There is also a blog focusing on the accomplishments of local non-profits, churches, and small businesses. The site will soon be expanded to include multimedia highlighting current and upcoming projects in the ward.
The goal is to allow residents to share content with friends, suggest ideas, report issues, and follow the positive transformation that is taking place in the 5th ward. According to Councilman Madison, "more and more of our residents are getting online, and we're able to communicate with them in ways that weren’t possible before. The site is going to change and adapt as I hear from people.”
