Nextdoor is the private social network for you, your neighbors and your community. It's the easiest way for you and your neighbors to talk online and make all of your lives better in the real world. And it's free. Hundreds of neighborhoods are already using Nextdoor to build happier, safer places to call home.
Elyria Residents can click here to use their personal Nextdoor website to get to know their neighbors, ask questions, and exchange local advice and recommendations with fellow residents and community leaders.
People are using Nextdoor to:
- Quickly get the word out about a break-in
- Organize a Neighborhood Watch Group
- Ask for help keeping an eye out for a lost dog
- Find a new home for an outgrown bike
- Finally call that nice man down the street by his first name
"A safe city is a successful city, said Councilman Madison. "To maintain and improve our quality of life, we must ensure that our basic health, safety and welfare are protected. We should also continue to celebrate our community assets such as parks, farmers markets, walkability and bikeability of our neighborhoods."
City residents will receive relevant community updates from Councilman Madison via his own Nextdoor website. Councilman Madison currently uses additional social media platforms, including Twitter and Facebook, to post updates on local news, services, programs, free events, and emergency notifications for residents.
"Partnering with Nextdoor is another step forward in our community's adoption of strategic technology that will allow us to better serve our residents," said Councilman Madison. "Nextdoor gives Elyria neighbors an easy way to organize, connect and communicate with those who live around them. It also provides community organizers with a direct line of communication to residents about important and often critical updates."
The site is specifically designed to make neighbors feel comfortable sharing information with one another in order to build stronger communities. Each neighborhood establishes and self-manages its own Nextdoor website and all members must verify that they reside within their neighborhood. Information shared on Nextdoor is password-protected and cannot be accessed by those outside the neighborhood. Nextdoor never shares personal information with any third parties, and unlike an email listserv or other online groups, neighbors’ posts are organized and archived for future reference.
Elyria residents who are interested in joining or creating their own neighborhood’s Nextdoor website can visit nextdoor.com and enter their address. If you are a resident of Elyria's 5th Ward, you can activate your account by clicking here.
