A Family Dollar store is to be built on Oberlin Road on land in front of the Rural King store, which revived the old Value City building.
The $375,000 project is being built by Hutton Construction, a Chattanooga, Tenn., company that is a principal builder of Family Dollar stores nationwide, according to Phil Lahetta, chief building official of the Elyria Building Department. Two houses were demolished last week to make way for the discount store, according to an employee of the nearby Rural King store.
Councilman Marcus D. Madison, D-5th Ward, said the project is good news for the city’s south side, which has long struggled to gain new businesses and a stronger economy.“This means jobs for local residents and our neck of the woods,” Madison said. “This means we’re turning the corner and people are starting to notice our neighborhood. Rural King led the charge with bringing jobs to the community. This sends a message that individuals can come here to be part of what we’re doing to move the community forward.”
