Work continues on Middle Avenue. Crews have been busy with concrete work including new curbs on the south end between 16th and 17th Streets and by St. Mary’s, updated ADA curb ramps and corresponding sidewalks, foundations for the traffic poles and control boxes and miscellaneous flat work. Crews continue to work on manhole casting and valve box adjustments as needed in preparation for paving next week.
Paving of the top course is scheduled to begin on Tuesday, 8/11, weather permitting. The paving will begin in the downtown, so parking will be restricted. No Parking signs will be posted on Monday, 8/10. Crews will then pave the remainder of Middle Avenue on Wednesday and Thursday, and hopefully finish with intersection work on Friday. With the final asphalt course in place, Smith Paving can begin working on the enhanced crosswalks. The crosswalk construction will require roadway closures.
Currently, the crosswalks at 5th and 6th Streets are scheduled to be completed first. All efforts will be made to get this work completed before school starts on 8/19. Detours will be posted. A schedule for the crosswalks will be emailed to you as well as posted on our website.
Please remember, this area is a CONSTRUCTION ZONE~ SLOW DOWN!! Delays should be expected. Awareness of the construction and consideration for the work zone will help make this a safe and successful project.
