The deadline to submit essays or poems for contest consideration is Friday, December 14, 2012, 4:00 p.m. at Elyria City  Hall, c/o Martin Luther King, Jr. Holiday Commission, (c/o Office of Equal Opportunity) 131 Court Street – Suite 301, Elyria, OH 44035.

Entries will be judged on: 1) Appeal, 2) Appropriate development of theme, 3) Use of language as it relates to the theme (no profanity), and 4) Emotional response.

The amount of $50.00 will be awarded to the winners in elementary and middle school categories.  The winners in the high school category will receive $100.00 cash.  The contests are sponsored this year by United Way of Greater Lorain County.  Essays and poems will be displayed throughout the Elyria Public Library system.
